Ethical and quality guidelines
Ethical and Quality Guidelines for Malmö University Press
These guidelines are adapted from guidelines by Committe of Publication Ethics.
Malmö University Press is part of Malmö University and is therefore governed by the academic values that form the foundation of the University’s activities: freedom, integrity, quality, responsibility, and collegiality.
It is the responsibility of the editorial board or journal editorial team to:
• ensure the quality of the publication.
• apply a transparent working process.
• ensure that academic and ethical guidelines are prioritised over commercial or institutional interests.
• guarantee that decisions and recommendations are made without conflicts of interest.
• ensure that procedures are in place to manage corrections, retractions, clarifications, and apologies should any of these become necessary.
• maintain routines to ensure that published texts are original contributions and have not been previously published.
• work closely with the publisher to develop guidelines, best practices, and tools to uphold and further develop the above.
Editorial boards and journal editorial teams are recommended to complete COPE’s online introductory training.
In addition to the above, the following applies in relation to authors
Instructions for authors, descriptions of the review process, and criteria for publication must be clear, precise, and kept up to date.
All decisions regarding publication, rejection, or revisions must be clearly justified and communicated in writing.
Publication decisions may be withdrawn if serious scientific, ethical, or legal issues are identified.
Authors must follow ethical research guidelines and ensure that the publication, where applicable, includes information about which guidelines have been followed.
During peer review
The Swedish Research Council’s rules on conflicts of interest must be followed. Reviewers are responsible for informing the editorial board if any suspicion of a conflict of interest arises during the review process.
